Several coach companies operate the Kigali–Kampala route daily:
- Jaguar Executive Coaches — most popular with tourists. Comfortable seats, AC, luggage hold.
- Trinity Express — reliable, slightly cheaper
- Modern Coast — covers this route less frequently
Buses depart from Nyabugogo bus terminal in Kigali, typically at 6–8 AM. Book tickets at the terminal or via the bus company's WhatsApp/office the day before.
Bus Journey Time and Cost
- Journey time: 9–12 hours (including Gatuna/Katuna border crossing — allow 1–2 hours for this)
- Ticket price: $15–$25 per person one way
- Departure point: Nyabugogo bus terminal, Kigali
- Arrival point: Usually Kampala city centre (various drop-off points)

- No driving fatigue on a long journey
- Good option if you are travelling solo with no plans outside Kampala
Bus Cons
- Fixed departure time — miss it and wait until tomorrow
- No flexibility to stop at anything along the route
- Luggage space is limited and can be overpacked
- Border crossing process can be stressful in a large group
- Once in Kampala you still need taxis or boda bodas to move around
- If you want to stop at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (gorilla trekking), the bus will not take you there

Instead of going straight Kigali–Kampala, drive Kigali–Cyanika border–Kisoro–Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (gorilla trekking) then continue to Kampala.
