Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is one of the world's greatest wildlife experiences — and getting there in the right vehicle makes all the difference. The main road from Kigali to Musanze (Ruhengeri) is fully paved and excellent, but the final stretch toward the park benefits from a capable 4x4 vehicle.

We offer two options: self-drive 4x4 hire for experienced drivers who want complete freedom, and chauffeured gorilla trekking transfers with experienced drivers who know every bend of the Kigali–Musanze road blindfolded. Early morning 4:00–5:00 AM departures for trekking permits are our daily routine — we are used to it.

Our most popular vehicle for gorilla trekking is the Toyota Land Cruiser V8 — powerful, spacious, and supremely comfortable on the 2.5-hour journey each way. For couples or solo travellers, the Toyota RAV4 or Prado is the perfect choice — more economical while still fully 4x4 capable.

How early do I need to leave Kigali for gorilla trekking?

Gorilla trekking permits begin at 7:00 AM from the Volcanoes NP headquarters in Kinigi. We recommend departing Kigali by 4:30–5:00 AM to arrive comfortably. We are experienced with early morning departures — this is routine for us.

Can you arrange a one-way Kigali to Volcanoes NP transfer?

Yes — we regularly do one-way transfers to Musanze. We can also arrange a separate pickup after your trek, or continue with you to Lake Kivu for a multi-day journey.
