MTN Mobile Money (MTN MoMo)
MTN Mobile Money is Rwanda's dominant payment platform and the way most local businesses - including Rent Cars Kigali - prefer to receive payment. US Dollars - Cash
USD cash is the standard international currency for car rental in Rwanda and the method most first-time visitors use. Payment is made at vehicle collection in the arrivals car park at Kigali International Airport or at your hotel on delivery. Bring clean, undamaged notes - Rwandan businesses, banks and forex offices do not accept torn, marked or pre-2009 USD bills. $50 and $100 denominations are preferred for large payments; $20 bills are fine for deposits.

Rwandan Francs (RWF) - Cash
If you have already exchanged currency at the airport or a Kigali forex bureau, you can pay in Rwandan Francs at the current exchange rate. We apply the daily buying rate published by National Bank of Rwanda. This option works well for longer-stay visitors who are already operating in RWF for their daily expenses. The rate is confirmed at time of payment - always ask for the rate before handing over francs if you want to calculate the equivalent.
Visa and Mastercard
Visa and Mastercard are accepted for kigali car rental payment. Card payments are processed at vehicle collection. Note that some international cards trigger a foreign transaction fee charged by your home bank - this is your bank's fee, not ours, and varies by card. Inform your bank before travelling that you will be using your card in Rwanda to avoid automatic fraud blocks on the transaction.
American Express is not widely accepted in Rwanda and we do not process AMEX. If you only carry AMEX, bring USD cash as a backup.
Do You Need to Pay a Deposit?
For standard short-term bookings, Rent Cars Kigali does not require an advance deposit. You pay the full rental amount at vehicle collection. For longer-term bookings (7+ days) or high-demand periods (peak gorilla trekking season June-September), a partial deposit via MoMo or bank transfer may be requested to hold the vehicle against your confirmed dates. This will be clearly stated at the time of booking confirmation.
When Is Payment Due?
Payment is due at vehicle collection - not before, not after. You inspect the vehicle, we hand you the keys and insurance documents, and payment is completed on the spot. For multi-day rentals, the full amount for the rental period is paid upfront at collection. There are no daily billing cycles or end-of-trip reconciliations.
Receipt and Documentation
