Flying Into Kigali International Airport -- 2026 Guide
Kigali International Airport (IATA: KGL) is smaller than visitors expect and more pleasant than any small airport has a right to be. Landing here feels less like arriving at a capital city and more like arriving somewhere that has decided efficiency and calm are worth prioritising. This guide tells you everything you need to know before you board your connecting flight.
Airlines That Fly to Kigali
RwandAir -- The National Carrier
Rwanda's own airline and the most connected option for African routes. RwandAir operates from Brussels (the longest route, adding Europe access), Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Dar es Salaam, Entebbe, Douala, Lagos, and multiple other African cities. Service quality is consistently rated well. The airline has expanded significantly and continues adding routes.
Qatar Airways
Via Doha. One of the most popular options from Europe, USA, and Australia. Excellent connections from major Western cities with a Doha layover. Comfortable aircraft, good in-flight service.
Ethiopian Airlines
Via Addis Ababa. Excellent connections from across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Very competitive pricing especially from Asian cities.
Kenya Airways
Via Nairobi. Good for visitors starting in Kenya and adding Rwanda to an East Africa itinerary. Also connects to European cities.
Brussels Airlines
Direct from Brussels. The only true direct European route to Kigali. Popular with Belgian visitors and the significant Rwandan diaspora in Belgium.
Turkish Airlines
Via Istanbul. Good connections from European cities and useful for some North American routings via Istanbul.
Emirates
Via Dubai. Popular from Australia, the Middle East, and some European cities. Dubai is a major hub with smooth Kigali connections.
